Easter Orchestral Society (formerly known as York Orchestral Course Society) dates back to 1977 when it was set up to continue an orchestral course which had been running for a quarter of a century at Attingham Park, Shropshire. Since then courses have been held annually each Easter, some times at York St John University, but in more recent years, at Ellesmere College, Shropshire, close to the market town of Ellesmere.

The aim of the course is not only to tackle repertoire that most amateurs do not normally get the opportunity to play, but just as importantly to have fun socialising and playing. However don't be alarmed - the playlist does also include music that players will be more familiar with - it's not all unremitting hard work! The emphasis is on playing as much as possible and having fun. There are also scholarships and reduced-rate student places available.

We aim to cover a wide range of music, including many larger-scale works. It's a chance to play all of those pieces you've always wanted to try, but never had the opportunity to.

EOS is a non-profit making voluntary organisation. Here's a copy of its constitution.
